Organisational Effectiveness - are you fit for the purpose?

j

We are helping charities in a range of activities that includes;

  • organisational structures e.g. changing legal makeup,  merger, setting up and winding up organisations.
  • Risk assessment; to develop a mechanism to identify and mitigate risks regularly.
  • Systems development e.g. business process, computerised accounting systems and developing procedures manual
  • Reporting systems and trustees and internal management.
  • Full Costs Recovery: to translate this concept into reality.

Case Study CA charity working to reduce the suffering from  conventional small arms (e.g. landmines) received a large grant from EU to run a project in East Africa. The grant was a substantial amount of money considering its existing funds. Therefore, it was necessary to develop a financial management system. We were asked to develop a financial procedure of the flow of funds and its mangemnt.The outcome was to produce a finance manual.

WAHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR OTHERS

Case Study AA global reproductive health charity works in partnership with national organisations where they use the global brand and governed by a national board. One of its leading and mature country operation was facing problems (e.g. harassed) by various authorities, mainly because they don't like some services offered by the charity thoughthese were essential and highly demanded by the beneficiaries. Moreover, thee existing legal/ structure  was not allowing to own property/ assets. It had an ambiguous legal entity that was adding to the problem. We were asked to explore the options available for the NGO  in that particular country and to come with suggested steps to implement our findings/ recommendations.  We managed to find a way that was appropriate for the charity and a transition plan was suggested which the head office and the national office adopted. Though it took around two years to implement due to bureaucratic formalities but eventually the national body became a more dynamic and effective.

Case Study B: A very well known charity with the volunteer at its core was considering to merge with another smaller charity working in the similar area. We were asked to assess the financial and organisational position of the smaller charity. We carried out a detail exercise initially mainly focusing on financial resources and established a clear picture of its position at that particular point of time. The management of both charity was assured with our assessment and the smaller charity was merged (actually it was a take over as the name of the smaller charity disappeared).

We donate 1% of our pre-tax profit to charities and good causes.
